I just painted my bedroom, I got some advice from a friend and painted it a beautiful grey with white trim. Everybody in our condos keep the closet door open. That being said I have lots of pocketbooks and jewery. How can I display them without going thru an act of Congress to find the one I want to carry. I guess the first thing I need to do is paint the closet walls and trim. I want to go with bright white so I can see in there better. Then what?

Disaster huh? I think I can find a new home for what is on the floor( winter clothes and mountains of ironing.

HELPPPPP ME PLEASE!!

Haha!! I’m laughing because I’m in the middle of a similar project. First go through and purge any clothes, shoes and bags you don’t love anymore. Then give your closet a color or theme that you will love to look into. Maybe a very pale pink (which coordinates with grey) with white trim. Install an inexpensive track light on the wall above the door. No need for wiring...They come in plug in versions. Doesn’t matter what it looks like it’s just to shine light on your clothes. You could even use one of those “Hollywood “ bathroom light bars. Change out your hangers for the skinny “velvet “ ones. Walmart and Big Lots have them inexpensively in bundles now. To my dismay, using those hangers has allowed me to get 3x more clothes than any 3 people need into my closet!! As for your purses, there are wall mounted racks made for that purpose. OR you could create your own on the wall above your shoes. Put a shelf high up for clutches and a couple of coat hook bars about a foot apart below to hang your other bags. I have also used a wall mounted coat hook bars for necklaces of all lengths.

I hope some of these ideas will work for you!

I agree get those velvety hangers. QVC sells a brand that has a small hook at the center of each hanger so that you can cascade your tops.

Target has storage bins that you hang on the rods you have. You can fold your tops and put at least 4 or 5 in each cubicle. Not everything is supposed to be hung.

I picked up inexpensive shoe racks on amazon. They're metal and hold 2 levels of shoes. Put them under your clothes on the floor.

If you have seasonal clothing ie winter/summer, get those bags that you put your out of season clothes in, and then you use your vacuum to get the air out. You can store those under your bed.

Hanging shirts on lower rods is more pleasing to the eye. No sleeves and shirt tails sticking out, slacks on top look neat.

Relocate the things under your shirts to allow for an open bookshelf that can store your purse collection openly. Get a clear hanging shoe bag to store your jewelry and hang between your clothes for security or on your free wall for easy access.

  • Take everything out and purge. I swear by Joy Mangano huggable hangers. They are in every closet in my house. You can get them on HSN, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target. Paint the closet. Relocate any items that can be stored elsewhere. Bins, baskets and boxes are your friend for the shelves. I, personally, have far too much jewelry to store in a closet. I have a high boy dresser next to my closet and several drawers are devoted solely for jewelry storage. Store handbags in boxes and display a few of your prettiest ones and rotate with the seasons.
