Empty space by bedroom door

Sheryl Johnson on Jan 10, 2015Well, it looks like a bag lands there anyway, so I would put something decorative with coat hooks (or old door knobs...cabinet knobs...) on the wall. Then I'd set a comfy puffy chair under it, making a spot where I could enter, hang my purse & sweater, take off my shoes, and decompress for 5 minutes after work before making dinner.Helpful Reply

MaryStLouis on Jan 11, 2015You have room for a beautiful bench or chaise there. I have one similar to this: http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Custom-Hartwell-Upholstered-Bench/00/630/ An upholstered chair would also look nice there with a small table and a reading l always a plus in a bedroom.Helpful Reply

Wint on Jan 11, 2015Put a bench that you could sit on and one with storage underneath. Do you need any hooks for keys, coats? If not, add some art above.Helpful Reply

Your Organized Friend on Jan 11, 2015My answer would depend on what you need in the room. Do you have a full length mirror (so you check what you are wearing)? Do you have a place to sit when getting dressed? Do you have a place to locate the outfit you are wearing the next day? Do you need a "take off pad"....you know where you put everything you need to remember the next day with you. Try and balance the large piece on the right. Good Luck with your solution.Helpful Reply

Shelby @ The Weathered Barn Studio on Jan 11, 2015I agree with ' your organized friend'...I believe every bedroom needs a chair or small bench, as a place to sit down , and put on your shoes, etc. I dont like huge dressers in bedrroms, takes up a lot of usable space, I like to have everything in a CLOSET. lol. thats just me...; bedrooms need a chair or bench, and a full length mirror that does not ' face the bed' , such as placing the mirror on the wall to the SIDE of the bed. Also, having a chair is a nice place to set your purse down in your bedroom,if thats where you keep your purse.Helpful Reply

Belinda Todd on Jan 11, 2015First off, is the dresser centered on the wall? If not, you could center it and place large vases with tall flowers on both sides. If the dresser is centered you could put a unique chair with ottoman if you have room.Helpful Reply

Jamoschini on Jan 12, 2015I would put a long seating bench and a couple of pictures on the wall. It would make a good place to take off your shoes and store your brief case.Helpful Reply

Kelly Graves on Jan 12, 2015I love reading the advice on these posts and I have to laugh at this one because I have no space next to my bedroom door. It is filled with STUFF! Now I am going to go DECLUTTER so I can use one of these great ideas! Thank you! I will post before and after pics.Helpful Reply

Lori on Jan 13, 2015If there is an option to paint - what about painting something on the wall and extending the dimension with hooks/shelves from the painting? Ex: I painted a tree (black) on a kitchen wall (nothing complicated trust me!) and found metal branch hooks (painted black) to extend from the arms of the tree branches. I wish I still had pictures (2010) , but we sold the house. If not, I like the idea of some seating with a shelf underneath for bags/shoes. PS: Love the drawings on your photo :)Helpful Reply

Rita on May 24, 2016I would like to see a very large/tall colorful vase. Don't bother to put anything inside it, the focus or attraction would be the vase itself.Helpful Reply
