How can I make a easy center island for my kitchen?

Patricia....Many people use a low chest and just finish the back so it will look complete. If you want to do more work they will remove a drawer and finish it for a shelf. Try to Google "Turn a dresser into a kitchen island" and watch the videos. Good luck!

Do you want the island to move, or will it stay fixed in one place?

If it is going to move, it will be important to install casters that are robust enough to support the weight of the island, with contents, while moving.

Depending on how the island base is designed, it may need to be reinforced to ensure stability.
