Sorry posted before I was finished. The countertop will be made out of hardwood flooring. But I don’t know how to finish It. It’s going in a rental kitchen so I am tempted to go with polyurethane although I hate the plastic look of it. I’m also considering tung oil. Any thoughts?

To do a butcher block you have to cut the wood into 1" squares and use the end grain as the top. Glue all together with water proof glue, sand smooth, then finish with a food safe oil. Not an easy project, must know how to use clamps and frame and use an electric sander. I just purchased a sheet of butcher block at Lumber Liquidators and trimmed it to fit. Sealed with a food safe oil. Kind of an expensive and time consuming project for rental property.
