Why not buy a round table and drop on a square Top..........
I would save yourself the headache and expense by checking out thrift stores for what you are looking for. I see tables all the time at these stores, then you can paint or stain whatever color you want. This is much more fulfilling and you are saving a piece of furnitire.
You have to scroll down a little to get the material list and details so dI sent you to the wrong place! http://www.ana-white.com/2013/01/plans/square-pedestal-table
I think the expense of building a table would be enough to try to find a second hand one. This is a work table we have in our yard. It is very sturdy, but for a kitchen table you would need leg room, thus would need different stretchers.
Have you tried Ikea....the Bjusta is extendable even.... http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/dining/21826/ I brought another table for my friend and they are surprisingly very clean lines and good looking.
Have you checked out thrift stores? Some specialize in furniture. The table may have to be refinished, but you can pick one up inexpensively.
