I'm glad you are looking at different types of birdhouses. Martins are communal and like larger houses with several houses inside with several holes to enter. Robins like actual nests, but will use individual houses if there is a lot of building materials nearby. Small birds want small holes and owls like higher houses with larger holes and branches to perch on while protecting their young. Field birds will nest in simple vertical mailbox houses.
