We used a painter's canvas drop cloth and put four large grommets on each corner. My husband sank four six inch PVC pipes in the ground and cemented with Quikcrete to support them. He then drilled holes in the PVC pipes at the height we wanted for the "fly" or cover/canvas. He used long threaded rods in the holes and secured them with nuts. They stuck out about three inches on each side. He them put rope through the grommets and tied the ropes tightly to each PVC post using the threaded rods as a kind of clete.

I am not sure how to make one, but if your table is large enough to seat about six people, I may suggest you look into one of those small tents you see in home improvement stores, perhaps you live near a store called Big Lots...I have seen these and they are not terribly expensive and look like they are easy to put together quickly.

  • I suggest just purchasing an EZ Up or similar type portable pop up shade. By the time you find quality fabric by the yard then the tent poles, you will be spending more than purchasing retail. Many places already have on sale as they are starting to bring in the fall merchandise in.
