yep! Using cedar will be best because it's rot resistant and still looks nice years to come. I believe you're question may have posted a few times - but here is my step by step tutorial blog post explaining how to build them along with lots of tips! http://gatheredinthekitchen.com/2015/04/23/diy-raised-garden-bed-beginner-level/
just be careful about using 'PALLET' Wood -- great for lots of things, just not so much for plants

here's bunch of how to videos you can sort thru https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=DIY+raised+beds
We used pallets to make raise beds. Not the greatest wood but usable. We made one 4' x 4' x 3' bed with pallets. We left the bottom open and lined the sides with trash bags to keep it from drying out so easily. We made the mistake of planting a Big Boy tomato in it along with peppers radishes and cucumbers. The tomato plant crowded everything out but the cucumber, so we will plant some bush tomatos next time. It took 14 cubic feet of soil to fill the bed by the way. We have another one to fill for this year, 4 x 8 x 2 this time. By the way, we didn't get one tomato off the plant, something kept eating holes in them and then they rotted on the plant.
Hi Christine, hope this helps you out.
