Make a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar and let sit in the pan
Try scrubbing it with baking soda or salt. Also you can try boiling water with a little Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Throw in a dryer sheet and let it sit on a cool burner for an hour or so and try cleaning it again .
Screw up some tin foil and scrub
a cream of tartar and water paste or toothpaste
Quick fix. I usually keep the two large bottles of lemon juice on hand (from sam`s) for this. After pasta or other water based boil in my aluminum pots, I put a few good squirts of the lemon juice in water to the dark line and let it boil for a few minutes. You can see the oxidation vanish after a few! Then I lightly run an SOS pad to shine it up! Sorry for being so wordy...
