Doing a Google search, I read that the asbestos will become airborne and can remain in the machine. It will contaminate further loads if it’s in there. You might contact the manufacturer or do some further research.
I found this link on cleaning the washer:

I would get an asbestos test kit at Menards, Home Depot, or Lowes and use it on the inside of the machine. There is a $40 lab fee and waiting period. In the mean time don't use the washer since your not sure.

How old is the home, what did he do and disturb?!
If you're subject to asbestos contamination on clothing, you can wash it out, but it's highly recommended to just get rid of them because of how dangerous the material is.
if your clothes have been exposed to asbestos fibers, it's recommended that you have them cleaned in a specialist laundry facility or dispose of them. Asbestos will cause harm when exposed to over time, so if you try to wash your clothes in a conventional washing machine, the asbestos could contaminate other garments or become airborne. Asbestos doesn't have a smell, and in most situations, you won't become aware of the exposure until many years later, so it's better to be safe than sorry.
There is a product called Afresh, that is used with very HOT water. I would try that.
1st off dispose of the clothing properly. Asbestos isn't like dust you can just flush away. Got to agree with contacting the manufacturer for their input. Otherwise I would run numerous cycles with water level set to high with lots laundry detergent to dislodge the asbestos fibers as best as you can.
I agree with William's suggestion, buy a test kit and find out for sure! Good luck
The test kit would rule in or rule out asbestos contamination. In the meantime take your clothes elsewhere to be laundered.
I sure wouldn't chance it.... invest in a new one on a monthly plan.
