Wash well with soap and hot water, then fill with white vinegar. Let it rest for about 5 minutes, empty out and wash again. Finally, crumple newspapers and put them in the container over night. Smell should be gone by then.
Just put in some used coffee grounds for a few hours. Works great! I just can't stand the smell of vinegar.
Rinse them with vinegar. After washing your containers with hot water and dish soap, fill them with white vinegar and let them sit for at least three minutes toremove icky, lasting smells. Then, pour out the vinegar and wash again with soap and water. Store them overnight (or longer) with newspaper
