Tip: Use a Plunger in your sink!!!

Hillela G.
by Hillela G.
We had a really tough clogged sink. Usually, I use baking soda and vinegar and boiling water to fix the problem. But this time, it was too clogged and there was so much water stuck in the sink that the baking soda concoction didn't make it into the drain.
So....Plunger to the rescue!! It was a last ditch effort but it really worked!!! I had a clean plunger, and used it over the drain. After a minute- completely de-clogged!!! Successicon icon icon !!!

I keep a small plunger under my sink and it isn't used anywhere else in the house.......know what I mean? On those rare occasions when I've had that sort of problem, I follow it with the vinegar and baking soda solution.

I'am a real pro at plunging my sink but remember if you have a double sink or a sink in the bathroom, you have to cover the over flow hole or the other drain to get suction...it cost me 40.00 to find this out when my bathroom was stopped up......

Or use a second small plunger on the other side as well. You just need to make sure the side not being plunged is sealed by the other plunger.

I used the plunger on my kitchen sing and ended up having to call a plumber. The plunging ended up loosening the pipe connections, and shortly after, I ended up with water pouring out of the cupboard below the sink. I never did tell my husband that I used the plunger on the sink. Beware.

Home Depot and/or Lowes sells a yellow short handled plunger much easier to use in either a kitchen or bathroom sink - try it you'll like it. Sells for less than $5.00

Even your hand or a piece of rubber can sometimes work in a pinch. Possibly I have never had a really bad clog, but when it gets stubborn, I push my palm into the drain and pull it out and everything drains.

This is a great idea and much more cost effective than mr. drain. Thanks for sharing that! I just have one wuestion, where do you pick up mini plungers?

I may have gotten mine at the grocery store. Most have those gadget aisles and I thought the pink short handle would give it destinction of not being for a commode. I pour a little baking soda down, let it fizz, add a little hot water, and then plunge like crazy. Be sure to keep your entire drain covered with the plunger. You want the effort you're exerting, to go to the plug.

If you have a double bowl sink, stop the other side up. Without doing that, it gives the air forced down an escape route and you want that gust of air to go down the to the plugged or slow moving side.

A plunger does work on a clogged sink.
