Can you paint a white shag rug to hide stains?
My shag rug has grey stains from shoes that I can't get out. Does anyone know how/if I can paint the rug a grey to hide the stains?
only thing i could suggest is a good dousing with fabreze-- you could sprinkle baking soda into it and vacuum then that might make it better too
Vacuum it and sprinkle baking soda all over, leave on along enough for the odor to be drawn out, then vacuum
Try spritzing it with vinegar on the top side, let it dry, then spritz the under side and let it dry. If that seems to help but still isn't all gone, wet it more with the vinegar so that it goes through the whole rug and hang it over the shower rod or somewhere to dry. I have gotten cat urine out of rugs and carpets with this.
Baking soda, sprinkle on let sit for an hour, vacuum.
Sprinkle the rug with Arm and Hammer Baking Soda and let sit for at least an hour, then vacumn. It works to absorb odors just like it helps in the fridge.
Lowes had a product that saved my son's favorite shag rug. May have other product but it is Zap for air & fabric odor eliminator. This stuff also makes the whole house smell great. This will clean it also & not mask the smell. May want to be sure that product kills active mold. If not you could use concrobium mold control from Lowes or HD. It has a pic of the HOLMES guy from HGTV. This is the product all of us in Louisiana used after our last huge flood in 2016. I have used this on sheet rock also to kill & prevent mold & primed & painted over instead of cutting out all sheetrock.
Take it outside and pour kitty litter on it. It should not only draw out the smell but will dry whatever is still damp. After a few hours, vacuum/shake it out. Putting it outside in the sun will also kill off any dampness/algae.
