Get the hair out of the brush, soak it in hot soapy water. If you can get between the bristles, try to clean all the hard surfaces that you can. I usually rinse the brush with vinegar to really clean the surfaces of left over soap or oily residue. Let it dry before you use it again. The vinegar will also disinfect the brush real well if left to dry with it on the brush.

I use hands to remove hair, if you have really long/thick/wavy hair and cannot get hair out of bristles to remove it use a pair of small scissors and snip one side of the hair along base of brush/ bristles to release it so you can pull it off brush easier, this helps/keeps from pulling the rubberized tips off of the ends of plastic bristles when using comb or (natural bristle brushes)pulling the bristles out or breaking them off when you pull the tightly wrapped hair out of brush; then soak whole brush in dawn dish soap( removes oily built up skin cells, hair product)and really hot water for at least 15 mins over night is good, scrub brush with toothbrush bewtween base of bristles if hairspray and stuff is stuck on it; then back into hot soapy water, then rinse with hottest water possible.Don't leave any vinegar on your brush if you go that route rinse it completely it is acidic can ruin brush(especially if it is expensive wood and natural bristle brush) and cause discoloration of your hair especially if you are coloring it.also remove/pulling hair out of brush after each time you use keeps it much cleaner and doesn't redeposit all the gunk from your brush back onto your hair.
