How can you remove shadowing from a chalkboard?

I have a chalkboard I purchased at a retail store and created a design on it for a birthday party but when I erased it, it left a shadow of my design. I'd like to be able to reuse the chalkboard. Can someone tell me how to clean a chalkboard to get rid of the shadowing?

Hi Karen, You might want to try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser!

    Hope this helps

Have you tried washing it with dish soap and water ? Do this and let it dry in the sun . Before you write on it again , "prime" it by taking the chalk rubbing it all over the board ,completely covering it, then erase and you should be good to go!

Use a Magic Eraser to clean the surface and some vinegar. These work wonders but can remove some painted surfaces, so please test first.

Use a baby wipe. These also work well and are somewhat less aggressive than Magic Erasers.

Use an ammonia-based cleaning solution such as NEOPlex Chalkboard Cleaner. Some people find Windex works just as well.

Did you season it first with chalk? Try doing that now by rubbing chalk vertically and horizontally using the side of the chalk. It may help. Rub the excess with an eraser or soft cloth.

I second the recommendation for baby wipes!
