How to prevent litter smells?

Gail
by Gail

I would like a cat litter box housed in a bench. I have one that I plan to line with flashing. However, my husband thinks it will still smell like it does in the bathroom. We scoop it constantly and wash out the box itself every two weeks or more. Our bathroom is so small I want it out of there. I’ve heard some keep them in their living rooms. Any experiences with this?

You can try adding some baking soda to the litter. This helped at my house.

We use a multi cat litter for one cat. Arm and hammer and scoop all the time. We just had to move the pan in our living room for our aging cat. So far so good.

  • Every 2 weeks? No wonder it has an odor. You can add baking soda to the liter, but should be cleaned once a week minimum. There are many "furniture style" options to get it out of your bathroom too.

It’s been cathartic typing this out.

      Thanks

LOL Naomie I concur. If you have a cat or more then one (I have a cat, and love her dearly❤), but yes, I agree with you, the litter box must be kept VERY tidy. This is part of the responsibilities of having a cat.

Try switching litter. We were forced to switch recently and found one with zero smell - Tidy Cat Free and Clean. Zero smell. Tracking the same. Use a scoop and your same routine. Try it. You've got nothing to lose.
