Clean with TSP (found in the paint department at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.). Let dry thoroughly.Helpful Reply -

At least a vinegar / water solution. If it were me, I would use TSP. Let me know how you like the peel and stick - my kitchen has NO backsplash.Helpful Reply -

a third vote for TSP, then soap-and-water, to make sure there's a clean surface for the tiles to adhere to.Helpful Reply -

Use a heavy duty cleaner, use a metal scrubber or brillo/sos pads if necessary, then rinse well and dry before installing your tiles.Helpful Reply -
