A sealer would be the best way to get what you're looking for. I would do some research into clear masonry and tile sealers, I'm sure you could get them in a flat, semi gloss and gloss finishes.
Hi Kim, I have a similar problem because I have a very porous matted tile in my kitchen and dirt gets into the pits. It's very hard to clean. I need a sealer as well just for cleaning purposes. I did find something that might help you.
Yes, K. Rupp, that is exactly the problem with my Dad's floors...I'm going to check out the sealers...I'm sure that would help to keep the dirt from getting into the nooks and crannies..and a gloss one would probably add the desired shine too! Thanks for the HD link
Kitchens are already slippery places and that's probably why the installed tile is matte, to aid in anti-slip. If you are sure you want glossy floors, try doing one first and live with it, see how safe it is first before doing the whole floor.
Hi Kim: Combine 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of ammonia and 1/4 cup of borax. Add 1 gallon of warm water to the ingredients and stir slightly to combine them well. Mop the tile floor with the cleaning solution, then rinse the floor well. Allow the floor to air-dry completely.
Combine 1/4 cup of ammonia with 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket. Soak a mop in the solution and wring out the excess water. Mop the tile floor to disinfect it. If the tile floor contains odd yellow discolorations or mildew, the ammonia will return the tiles back to their original shine.
You could also think about sealing the floor once you get it clean

Are you sure you want them to shine. Seems like they would be slippery if any water got on them. I thought the idea of no shine was "no slip".

I would check with a local tile business. They will be able to steer you toward the best product.

Try a good gloss sealer or Lay Gloss tiles on top of existing tiles but not in the same grid!

Hello the sealer I-have used did-not— change the shine....you might consider to call a tile shop for best suggestions or check with staff on-site.
