I have to laugh because I also have a cat in a spare bedroom. I put her toys and cat box in there but only at night because she needed to be socialized with the rest of the family.
Hello there Teresa,
Make a door using a wooden frame and chicken wire as insert. Either hing the door or fit it in between the door jams (like a baby gate)... Hope that helps.
Buy a screen door the size of the existing door. Remove the existing door and put the same kind of hinge on the screen door at the same hole locations. Hang the screen door and use a hook/eye to keep it closed.
What you do depends on how you want the space to look. Chicken wire may be too rustic. I would consider metal screen. It's found in the window department - it just isn't made of plastic which will tear easily with a cat's claws. You can staple the screen onto the frame - just be sure to roll or cover the edges so they won't poke anything. The metal can be sharp - so use gloves. If you don't want to mess with hardware, you can press the frame into the door jamb and secure it with compression curtain rods. I'd use one at the top, middle and bottom.
A baby gate has worked for me. Good luck!
