If you sew, you can make a long tube and stuff it and place it under the couch and back a few inches. Or you can roll up a towel or old sheet and put rubber bands on it to keep it as a roll.
Ellen: I solved this problem by getting a bigger ball.
Hey there Ellen, I'm not sure what you sofa looks like and how high it is. Do you perhaps have a photo to share? Something you can try is adding a wire mesh under the sofa that will stop the ball from rolling underneath
How about an air mattress under your sofa so it can't get too far under?
but a baffle under the sofa ... usually a 1" x 4" board the length / width of the sofa will be sufficient; you can paint it black so you don't see it. -- depending on where in the room the sofa is located you may need 4 boards --- 2 for the front/back and 2 for either end.
Pool noodle, cover with fabric or paint to make it less noticeable.
I agree with the pool noodle. On my good sofa, it would just fit underneath it nice and tight, by I have fabric hanging down to the floor, so I wouldn't have to do anything to hide it. Perhaps a fabric piece rolled onto it and held with hot glue, it won't really get abused, so secured on the ends and along the seam should be enough.
