Yep that's an old bait bucket. I've always called them minnow buckets :) Both my grandpa's had one of those.

I didn't know it was a minnow bucket, but it sure is a cool piece! I'd put it on my front porch and add some lights on the inside and maybe put a plant on top of it!

Oh my! It's been years since I've seen one but I remember taking one with us when we went fishing. It had bait in it and we had it in the water and tied up to the boat for easy access.

That’s the inside portion of a minnow pail. You keep live bait inside of it, while it is immersed in water inside of a slightly larger pail. You could slightly raise it out of the enclosing pail to get a minnow out to put on your hook.

I was going to say the same. I'm pretty sure it's a bait bucket. The holes are to allow water to flow through while holding the bait/fish.

Well, I know I’m late to this party but what a walk down memory lane! I looked that this bucket and immediately thought of my Daddy. He had one he always used when we went fishing. I knew what it was as soon as I saw it. Can’t remember the last time I saw one of these. Thanks for asking the question and making a memory for me.

It’s a cricket box, I don’t think minnows would survive with no water. You put half of a raw potato for them to eat and stay alive
