How to Make DIY Etched Glass Tumblers

Let's make some easy etched tumblers!

All you need:

  • Glass tumbler, votive, or juice glass
  • Etching medium
  • A stencil and tape or an adhesive stencil (or you can freehand your design)
  • Cheap paintbrush
  • Water source

Take your glass and place your stencil where you want.

Once you’re happy with the placement either tape the stencil in place or apply the adhesive removable stencil.

Take your etching medium, and brush it over your stencil onto the glass in a thick, even coat. Make sure you are staying in the stencil lines as much as possible to keep more crisp edges. My edges bled a little, but I like how imperfect this can be too.

Wait 1-3 minutes for the medium to set (the longer you wait the better it looks in my opinion).

When time is up, quickly yet carefully remove your stencil, and set aside.

At a sink, rinse the medium off of the glass with water. You can use a wet paper towel to help remove the medium more quickly.

Dry the glass off, and admire your work.

Pretty cool huh? I love how simple and understated it is. Subtle elegance.

Using a letter monogram stencil would look pretty nice for this project as well. These would make great gifts or centerpiece decor.

And if you don’t want to use a stencil, you can also freehand a design onto the glass. I cerated a polka dot version, and I really like how it turned out.

Brush on the etching medium.

Wash off after 1-2 minutes, and dry.

Fill and enjoy!

I can’t wait to try this stencil. I love the mod design.

Can it go through the dishwasher? Or should it be hand washed?
