I am always looking for new ways to create from discarded old unwanted items and so finding some old records in the loft was a good opportunity to experiment.

I wondered if acrylic paint pens would work on the surface to create a art piece.

Painting on the record

I start by covering the whole surface with green . Although a bit patchy it did dry fairly smoothly and very quickly.

So next step is using white fine paint pen which I draw a fish shape ( copied) and add details with little lines and also the eye and fins.

Draw a fish

I continue with colouring in carefully and then draw another two fish with similar shapes and details. It starts to come together.

Colouring in

I continue around leaving a space in between the designs for more fish. When all three fish are done I then colour around edges with a fine line black pen that brings the details up and sharpens the images.

I also do the border I do in white wave like shapes and fill in with little lines.

Adding border

I am so chuffed with it as experiment and will attempt to do more with varied designs… it’s quite addictive and the possibilities are endless and a great way to up-cycle having fun!

Does working on the record’s texture not freak you out though?

It is really beautiful, did you need to seal it?
