I live in Canada & we get a lot of snow , a friend who is a furnace & air
repairman say no you don't have to but it wont hurt. I do it anyway because snow here if turns to ice which is a lot of weight on the blade & other parts.
Our air condioner man said it needs air circulation. Keeping it covered causes rust. Mine is still in use since 1978. Northern climate.
For what purpose? I can see placing a board or it to keep snow off the blades, but it still needs air circulation otherwise it might rust.
If it is a central unit it will not be necessary but a wall or window unit.. cover can be picked up at most hardware stores.
NO! They are built to take outside weather conditions. Covering them completely will trap moisture, cause mold to grow, eat away at the aluminum fins and copper tubing. You can place a piece of plywood on the top, weigh it down to prevent snow from accumulating inside.
