It's called wainscot, not Wayne's coating. It is a type of paneling you can buy in sheets at Home Depot or Lowe's. Many people install it in the kitchen for the bottom 1/2 or 1/3 of their walls.
me thinks spell checker is “ helping” out. You buy it in panels, and will need trim pieces at the top, and possibly the bottom. It does save some wear and tear on the sheet rock.
Google search: wainscoting Pinterest.com will have ideas as to style and materials as will DIYnetwork.com or HGTV.com bead board is only one option... I have seen several interesting versions made from vintage tin ceiling tiles... or just with paint and molding... the choice is YOURS
