Permanent Sharpie will not wipe off easily once it is completely dry. I have managed to remove all but traces of them with a magic eraser and dry erase board cleaner.
If you know someone who has a Cricut, you could also apply vinyl to your board. This would last and not fade. Good luck!
A sharpie would work. You could also use a paint pen.
