My entire house is covered with the original plaster walls and this ugly green floral wallpaper! you can tell the wallpaper was added due to the fact that the plaster is crumbling, I’d like to rip off the wallpaper but how can I without destroying the wall? Plus I’m pretty sure there’s the original instillation behind the wall too which I’m not willing to get into with it being a health hazard to be near. Oh and the wallpaper is starting to come off the wall in some places, so I’m kind of stuck.

You could have the walls re rendered or Plastered or you could panel them out or Apply Sheetrock..........

Our house had the same problem. I tried carefully removing the paper from one small partial wall. The wall actually crumbled and fell on me. LOL Until you are ready to replace the old lathe and plaster, try what I did. A little glue to affix the paper back on the wall and then paint over the wallpaper.

Strip the wallpaper first. Then, refinish the plaster walls using regular drywall mud (cheaper than having someone come in and redo).

You might want to put 1/4 inch sheet rock over it. It will probably be easier in the long run. Plus it will add a little bit more insulation, since you think you only have the original in the wall.

Some plaster can't be saved. Sometimes covering it with sheet rock is the best answer.
