I want a pallet wall in the bathroom and I'm not sure if I need to treat shellac the pallet wood prior to putting them on the wall. Plus should i paint the wall first. I have old wallpaper that needs removing.

I would scrub off as much of the paper as possible and finish the wood before installing it. Unless you are planning to leave gaps in your wood, there is no need to paint the wall. After installation I would fill any possible gaps with wood filler or caulk and put on another finish coat.

A bathroom is a warm humid environment. Any undesirable substances or bacteria that are harboring in the old pallet wood will eventually be emitted into the air in the room. The roughness and porousness of the pallet wood also makes it very difficult to keep clean and sanitized.

That's a lot of messy work but it will make the walls easier to keep clean.
