Would you want to raise your dishwasher?

When we built our current house we asked the builder to raise our dishwasher higher than they're normally installed. Yes, we lost countertop space but in the 14 1/2 years we've lived here we've both developed back problems that make bending painful and difficult. Anyone wish this was a feature in their home?

That is so smart! I hate having to bend over each time! How did you think of it?Helpful Reply -

That's a really important point -- I would definitely love it if that were a feature. Also makes me think about the fact that it would be a good idea to think about what I store in my cabinets -- the things that I use less could go closer to the bottom of the shelves. Thank you!!!Helpful Reply -

That is something to consider! They're putting washers and dryers on pedestals, why not dishwashers! Saving stress on the back is worth losing a little counter space. Surprised builders don't offer that as an option.Helpful Reply -

We raised the dishwasher in our last home. I loved it. My current kitchen configuration doesn't allow for it and it's greatly missed.Helpful Reply -

I would love that! Right now I hate my dishwasher. The contractor installed it in the pennisula and right next to the 9" lower cabinet that abuts the long countertop. I don't really have room to take the clean dishes out of the dishwasher and put them away. I stand in front, unload onto the countertop, close the dishwasher and then put them away. And, for whatever reason, the dishwasher door when open is only about 12" off the floor. Fun, huh?I am going to reconfigure when we replace dishwasher this spring. I am switching it with the 21" bottom cabinet which will solve that issue. Hmm, now I am thinking about cutting the countertop and going with a pedestal, too. What is on top of the dishwasher? Is it just regular countertop?Helpful Reply -

As you can see, our countertop abuts the raised dishwasher but has storage below and above. The higher storage has a pull-out shelf that houses our toaster oven. We had this shelf installed higher that normal and I keep cutting mats, cookie sheets, jelly roll pan, etc., under this shelf. The top shelf holds my wok, roasters, etc. please don't judge me for my messiness!Helpful Reply -

I raised mine when I re vamped the kitchen about 10 years ago. I meant for it to be a raised message center and it didn't quite work out with the cell phones now. but still love that I raised it off the floor. probably about 6-8 inches, I knew I didn't want to lean over so far.Helpful Reply -
