I've seen a few clever tricks here on Hometalk which you can find using the search bar at the top left but you could add mirrors which will bounce the light around. If it's already dark, painting it white or light will make it look dingy and dull so skip that. If you can add some lighting or have the decor focus at either end, that might help too.
Paint it white.
Install light colored flooring.
Paint ceiling white as well.
Add a solar tube or skylight.
Make a fake window.
Add pot lighting instead of using lamps which can cast shadows.

Painting the hall walls in a light semi-gloss paint may help. Also, mirrors can reflect any light that may be available to make the hallway less dark.LED lighting will also help quite a lot.
I personally suggest to paint walls to white or something that is a semi-gloss. Then you can also utilize some pot lighting.
Paint it with white semi gloss paint. If there is no power outlets in the hallway, you can add some solar lighting or battery operated lights.
Paint with a light colored paint and install some light flooring. Mirrors on the wall may also reflect light from other areas.
I have the same problem. I bought a double light fixture and used LED outdoor lights. I painted the walls a creamy white gray. That helped
thank you all so much for the helpful ideas.
Light colors always reflect the light. There is a post here where someone hung a window at the end of the hall and led strip lighting behind the frame to add light. They cut and fitted an outdoor scene out of paper to the back of the glass so it looked like a real window.
Light colors, additional lighting, and adding mirrors will lighten and make the space feel larger.
more lighting (ceiling lights) lighter colors, if possible add a window or sky light are a few suggestions
