I have dyed my carpets. I used fabric dye.I sprayed the dye on a small area, then used a brush to get it in the fibers. It had to be very dry before walking on it.A fan helped. Also an electric brush , like the floor scrubber kind worked great. When my scrubber bit the dust,I used a stiff bristle scrub brush that can be put on a broom stick.(better than being on the floor on hands and knees).
After about two years the dye faded. I used a darker color than the original color.Like a darker shade of grey.I used back. It takes time, but saved a lot of money. Good luck!
