How can I change the look of my old bathroom vinyl floor?

I am really dont think paint will work on vinyl. Being a floor that will have high traffic paint will peel. Vinyl is cheap, it would be easier to replace.

It seems almost sinful to do anything that would change this. This is a true antique and screams art deco. It just needs to be cleaned up real good and then a couple of coats of wax. It will look beautiful. Buy a nice plush throw rug to match either your yellow or green. I have tackled old dingy tile floors before and the absolute best way to clean it is Comet, water, a green scratchy pad, and LOTS of elbow grease. Scrub, scrub, scrub and leave the soapy stuff on it for 20 or 30 minutes because the Comet will bleach it. Then rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse changing your rags and water frequently. (Comet leaves a powdery residue that's a booger to get up but it's doable.) When it's dry, run the vacuum over it and then apply two coats of a good liquid floor wax letting each coat dry completely. If you hate it, paint it. You won't have to worry about painting over years of built up dirt. Home Depot or Lowe's can show you the best paint for your type of floor. You could always paint it a solid color and then stencil it with one or both of your colors. Good luck!!

I do love your floors, but I know you can purchase LVT (luxury vinyl tile) and install it over your existing floors.

You've gotten a lot of good advice. One thought I have is to not use wax on your floor at all. If you choose to paint it (which does work well if done properly) or if you choose to clean it up for the retro look, or even if you replace it, it is my opinion that wax is the cause of most of the future problems we have with floors. It builds up and eventually turns yellow and eventually makes a mess. I'd use a poly acrylic instead. A poly acrylic won't turn yellow like a polyurethane and will make your floors shine. Which ever you choose, I wish you the best!

When I first looked at the floor, I thought wow what a cool thing to have. I know just like everyone else - it can get tiring to see the same thing. Floor can be painted even vinyl. A previous Hometalker gave you lots of sites to go to and another suggested replacing with new vinyl sheets or tiles. Go with what your budget and heart desires and enjoy your new floor.

Giving the floor a thorough cleaning, as others have noted, will enhance its look. However, do not forget also scrubbing and freshly painting other needed areas, such as the vent cover and baseboards.
