I need a very easy and cheap way to change the floor in my bathroom. For some reason the people before me put carpeting in.

  • Yes well, that was the style at one time. I have some in the vanity area of my master bathroom. Not ideal, but I am a neat and tidy girl alone, so it is ok for now.

My vote is for a vinyl product. Either peel and stick tiles, sheet vinyl (my preference), or the newer vinyl planks. All take a beating and easy to clean and maintain.

Hi ! I never understood why someone would put carpeting in a bathroom ??

Maybe to keep your feet warm & and pretty much slip proof. We recently put down a new floor in our bathroom , it was easy and inexpensive & looks great!

I purchased peel and stick woodtone vinyl planks on Amazon . It cost about $25 for a box that covers 15 square ft. To do this you don't need any special cutters, just a kitchen scissor or carpet cutter. The planks cut easily, and stick well. The ones we picked out were textured, which we wanted for the bathroom , not slippery when wet. You need a smooth surface, so after your carpet is up , make sure to get all staples out. If they glued it , use a scrapper. Good luck !

    Here’s what I did:

Buy high quality peel-n-stick vinyl tiles with a warranty. Buy from the same dye lot. Buy 15% more than you’ll need.

Remove the carpet and repair the holes from the tack strip, check the toilet for unevenness and leaks (address those first),

prep the entire floor to be free of bumps & dents as well as old adhesives and bathroom floor “dirt”.

If you need to use acetone, then do so. If you can wash down the floor with rubbing alcohol, do so.

    Why?

Vinyl tile “telescopes” every-little-imperfection in the sub-floor!

Start laying the tile at the corner of the end of the bathtub wall and the wall across from the toilet.

If your bathtub is not straight, then practice with copy paper on making a template, before cutting an irregular cut on the tile. (If you want a tutorial on making a template then lmk)

    Measure twice cut once.

If your tile has a pattern, empty the box and see how many types of each pattern there are, so that you lay them in a staggered and rotated way.

You might number them with a grease pencil or lay them in the hallway in the order they’re to be installed.

Like painting a floor, work your way backwards, out to the door.

My bathroom took me two full days and I custom mixed some latex paint to hide a bad cut behind the toilet (I can give a tutorial on that also, lmk).

Carpet in the bathroom is a very sick thing. I replaced the flooring in my dad's small guest bathroom myself. I got a piece of sheet vinyl and glued it down. To finish it I put molding around the area where the floor meets the wall. Since the bathroom was only 6x10 I was able to buy a remnant at a fraction of the price.
