You could add fringe to a sturdy blanket, quilt, comforter, towel, or material that would hold up to walking. Make sure to add a non slip backing or secure it to the floor for safety.
Dollar Tree has some plain black entrance mats that you could paint a design which might be a better option.
Hi Genie, you can make "yarn" out of nearly anything and then crochet or hok a rug using a purchased backing for the hooked rug. Old T-shirts, fabrics, plastic bags can be cut into narrow lengths perfectly able to be used for either crocheting or hooking. There are youtube videos available showing directions for how to accomplish this. The plastic bags cut into lengths to be crocheted is called "plarnn". What fun to explore a new project. You could actually use old clothing cut into strips to crochet or cut into appropriate lengths to make a hooked rug. Have fun!

Hi Genie, there are so many different things you could use. W made a small mat for our bathroom using plastic bags, and another one using faux grass offcuts. You can also use t-shirts, old tatty sheets, rope, pom-pom made from yarn, and corks.
Buy or find sacking the size you require and cut up your stuff into oblongs about 1" wide by 3 or 4" long. Either draw a design on the Sacking and colour code it, or start in the centre and work out using what you have. You can buy a tool for rug making from craft shops.
I’ve seen a ton of DIY rugs here on Hometalk so surely there’s a great tutorial for you. Try the search bar at the top left.
