How do I wrap a beam in cedar?

I have a vaulted ceiling that has ugly popcorn ceiling plus a popcorn faux beam. 39 yr old townhouse. How do I cover it? I’d like to use cedar wood.

Basically build a three sided box that slips over the beam. Cedar would look really nice.

Can the original beam hold up a casing using the wood you want? By nailing the casing to the beam??

Just get the 1/2" cedar lumber and build the box casing. It won't be that heavy when nailing it to the beam. Good luck with your project.

Sorry to sound negative, but do you own this townhouse unit? If so these suggestions sound wonderful, but if you're renting, you may need to clear any renovations with the landlord first as there may be a clause in your contract stating you will return the unit the way you had when you moved in.
