How do you use eucaboard for a sub floor?

my contractor used 1/8 in ecauboard for the sub floor instead of luan subfloor, its at a cottage with no basement. the cottage is on stilts approximatetly 15 inches off the ground

From what I've read, it can be used as a subfloor, but is not the first choice.
Eucaboard can be used as an underpayment on top of the sub flooring. It should not be used as a subfloor. Check with another contractor to see if it meets your building code. If your contractor had a permit call the building department to see if his work met code.
Eucaboard is a high density fiber board made from eucalyptus trees, also known as hardboard. There are lots of uses for it, take a look:

Most building codes require at least a 3/4 thick subfloor, which is different than underlayment as Tom pointed out. Just as important, did the contractor properly insulate your floor system?
Find out what your city code is and make sure that the contractor has used material that is up to code.

Based on everything I have read about eucaboard, it should hold up fine. He may have chosen it because it is supposed to withstand elements and since it's only 15" off the ground may have some element exposure.
