How to install engineered hardwood floor?
I’m looking to update my living room and dining room floors. We will be ripping up the carpet and installing engineered hard wood flooring. Can we install the flooring directly on top of the subfloor or do we have to buy that thin pad and lay that first? Can the flooring be glued down because the padding is so expensive?
Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from someone.
Have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
Lisa Lawson

Yes use the underlayment. There is a reason for it. As far as gluing the floor down, it depends upon the type you buy. Some are "floating" floors and should not be glued. I will say, someone glued my floor down before I bought this house and it's really hard chipping it up! If a piece needs to be replaced in the future you'll hate yourself for gluing it down.
Hello Lisa,
Yes, you can, but before you buy it read the instructions for installation first, so you are prepared with all you need to do the job........... Good luck1
