Hi Juke, I think it's all a personal preference. I like darker flooring. I think it gives a timeless look. Lighter floors are more modern in my opinion. The color of your flooring should go with you paint choice, but, in the end, you are the one who will be living with your decision. Best of luck to you.

There is no hard fast decorating rule to either a dark or light floor, however, keep in mind that a darker floor will show crumbs, powder, lint, thread, etc. more readily than a lighter flooring will.

I agree this is a personal preference decision. I also prefer a darker color on my floors especially when it comes to wood floors. I think dark wood floors are timeless as well as elegant looking but that's just what I like. I have had both white and dark tile floors and they both have their pros and cons. My white kitchen tiles are so hard to keep clean, they show everything that hits them or is tracked or spilled on them. The dark floors I had many years ago were forever showing dust, lint, water marks etc. which also drove me crazy. On the other hand I put pile down on our front porch and steps several years ago and those were dark multi colored tile with colors of brown, rust and black and they don't show dirt or water spots since they have a rough surface like a piece of slate although these are hard porcelain tiles. I love them and would really like to put them in my kitchen. Dark flooring will make your space seem a little smaller where a lighter color will make the area seem bigger but floor color ultimately is what you like. This will be something you have to live with a long time so pick something that pleases you and that will go well with your room furnishings best. Good luck!

I don't think there are rules for this. Personally though, I like the look of floors being darker than the walls.

Can be the same, lighter or darker. Just remember that light shows dirt. Dark shows lint.
