Daffodils are in a pot as we live in the desert and our ground cover is rocks

Nope, they are once and done then start rebuilding their bulbs for the following year.

Let the plant die back on its own, it stores this in the bulb for the next season. They are pretty much cool weather plants, just like tulips and probably won't bloom again until next year.
