You can "trim" now to keep tidy, but pruning is best done in late winter to early spring. Here are a couple links.

You don't need to prune this type of rose bush.
You can prune as they get out of hand. Don't cut back to more than 2 foot high. And don't cut back more than a third of the bush. If they are really big - cut back one third now, then some more next year.
