What can I do with my amaryllis now that it has bloomed?

The spent blooms are dead on their stalks now, so do I let the stalk die off or cut it back? Maybe I should repot it? Anyone know how to plant amaryllis bulbs in pots?

These are bulbs and like all bulbs, they have a "dig up" and a "put in the ground" season. Google these and follow their advice for your zone! There should also be info on care for them to insure blooming next year!

If the stems are brown cut them off and dry the bulb out. Once dry store in moss in a paper bag and store till next season.

My amaryllis stay in the ground year round. I live in Southeast Texas. I just cut the dead flowers off at the bottom and the foliage stays green almost year round. They seem to get fuller and more abundant each year.

I'm in coastal Georgia (Zone 9). My amaryllis stay in the ground year round. The foliage looks nice all year. Once the flowers have bloomed, I simply bend the stalks over down to the ground and leave the dead flowers on. The seeds go right back into the ground and produce more amaryllis for the next year! You can really fill in an area over the years by doing this.

Cut the bloom stalks off near the bulb and water and fertilize (only water when it is dry) and make sure it has some light and the leaves should stay green and provide nourishment for the bulb. Some people advocate removing the bulb from the pot and planting immediately. I think that depends upon your weather and whether you will be having any frosts or snow. . Many instructions say the forced bulb should be thrown away but most of them will bloom again

If you live in zone 7 or above plant them outside and leave them. I have some that have been outside for more than 10 years and are still growing strong.

Amaryllis thrive when planted outdoors in the summer and will produce new plants that can then be broken off and planted just like a canna bulb or Iris bulb. Once the plant has bloomed, cut the stalk down to approximately 2 inches. You can let it go dormant in your garage until the ground is warm. Plant the bulb in s hole deep enough that the roots are covered and the bulb sits up out of the ground, about two thirds of the way in a well drained area. Too much water will rot the bulb. It will grow again!

I have a bulb that is over 10 years old. it has been in a large plastic planter with a peace lily for all that time. this year it had 3 stalks with 5 or 6 flowers each. the bulb is about 10 inches across. i never have cut down the leaves, only remove them when they turn yellow. this year the leaves are 57"tall and i have a large tomatoe cage around it for support. I fertilize it in the spring and once in late summer. it gets watered when the peace lily wilts,
