You may need to dig them up in fall and keep in a pot to winter them over and replant again in spring.
you do not have to replant them .I have kept mine in the original pots.However if you want to plant them in another pot use succulent soil.If you plant them in the ground make sure they are in full sun and dry soil
It sounds like they came in a decorative pot, much like the strawberry pots that hold multiple plants in holes all over the pot. That probably was meant to be on a table, not taken out of the pot and put in the ground. You would have to take them out of the pot and plant them.
Plant in the ground. Uusually you will find them in some kind of rock formation where they seem to do best. They are winter hardy even in the coldest of climates.
Yours have come in a decorative pot, typically called a "strawberry pot", as others have said. This is not meant to be placed in the ground, but rather enjoy them growing from the openings.
