Vinegar and epson salt

If Epson salt is good for plants  then what does vinegar do to make it a poison??

Using vinegar on your plants will kill them Many have found vinegar to be useful when trying to kill weeds without any harmful chemicals.As for epson salt I dont think that would be a good solution,however is there something you are trying to experiment with or are you looking for other info?

yes.. but i am wondering why add epson salts etc the formula i am wondering about is..1 gallon vinegar 2 cups epson salts and 1/half cupn liquid soap other words why add epson salts .as that seems to be a pluss for gardenig ..better growth..

Epson salt is a natural magnesium so certain plants like tomatoes will benefit.You failed to mention what plants you were going to use this on. I will do more research if you give me what plants you are talking about.

HMM !! my wonderment is WHY add epson salt to vinegar to kill weeds etc.. other words what happens to the 2 when put together a big chemical reaction and of course being Tarus.. why does it happen P>S Mahalo Nui Loa jANET o)

SALT, table salt & vinegar it for killing grass that grows in the street or driveway cracks. Epsom salt is not the same as table salt; it's not really salt, look on the container for it's chemical name. It's very good for newly planted shrubs. I put a 1/4 to 1/2 cup in the hole and mix it in with the soil before planting anything.

sue you never put any type of fertilizer or chemicals in newly planted planted shrubs.. Rule of thumb one year after established growth. Please research before you answer with plants.

@Ray , I'm wondering if people are saying to use Epsom salts instead of table salt, since sodium can kill anything that is good in the surrounding soil. Epsom salts are probably just drying/dehydrating, but won't do any permanent damage should they leach, since some use them as fertilizer. http://nodontpinthat.blogspot.ca/2014/06/all-natural-weed-killer.htmlI like to use extra strength vinegar from the gardening store (I believe it is 10 or 15% acetic acid).

If you have a soil test done before planting ANYTHING & your soil has a magnesium deficiency (unusual yellowing of leaves can indicate a magnesium deficiency) you can certainly add some to your planting hole, just be sure to mix it well with the removed dirt before back filling. Check the back of the bag for the amount to use. I use Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) each year when I plant new things, and yes it is different from the table salt/vinegar mixture used to kill weeds.

I'm thinking the vinegar kills the foilage plant cells and the epsom salt works as a drying agent. Detergent would act as a surfactant.
