Hi Carolyn, I suppose it depends on your climate. In our area we get too much cold and snow, nothing seems to help them except bringing them inside.
What zone are you in Carolyn? Chances are you will need to take in - garage, barn, spare room with west or south facing windows. If in a milder climate, no need to. I am in zone 9 and my plants are out year round.
Tell us where you live. It all depends on your climate.
