You can start seeds at any time. I always have something going. You can plant outside in spring when it is safe to do so. What zone are you in?
You can start around the first of March and by the time the last frost has gone you can put them in the ground. If you've already planted them and we do have a frost. I get buckets from the dollar tree and cover them at night and take them off first thing in the morning. Never had a problem with this, and my garden flourishes in the summer.
Hi Paul. I start my seeds mid March. Make sure that when it does start getting warm out you harden them off. You will need to take them outside for about 10 minutes and then keep increasing the amount of time. I do this for about 1 week. Have fun!
I start them on March 24th, my grown daughter's birthday, but I'm in northern Wyoming. Find out what your last typical expected frost date is wherever you are, and count back 6-8 weeks from that date. Cool weather veggies can be started 2-3 weeks earlier and put out under cover. Every county has a county agent that can give you the frost date if you have trouble finding it, although most seed catalogs have ag maps in them that show first and last frost dates for you. They don't take your altitude into consideration, but the county agent will. He can also help you with a soil test if you need it. Good luck!
It depends upon the last frost date in your area. Once you find that out, you can count back as to how many days for the seed to sprout then add a week. The back of the seed package will tell you.
Call your local extension office. They have exact info for your area.
you cannot start them anytime if you live in a cold climate and they cannot be planted after they have grown enough.Rule of thumb for seed starting they should be done 6-8 weeks before you last expected frost date.they should be started in seed pods with seed staring soil, transferred when large enough to a bigger pot, established and then planted.
