If the plant needs re-potting you can do it basically any time.Gently pull down any tangled roots and place in fresh soil.Helpful Reply -

As a general rule, I do not "add dirt" to houseplants. I repot every spring with fresh houseplant soil or when a plant has outgrown its current container. Hi Patricia I think any time would be a good time to add dirt if their roots are showing etc.Helpful Reply -

You don't want to have the roots exposed. You could also try loosening up the soil in the pot, or perhaps it needs to be repotted in a new pot a size bigger and is getting root bound.Helpful Reply -

Sometimes over time the dirt in the plant pot settles.....I have removed an inch of the soil and added new soil to the top of the pot (leaving room for water). I do this whenever the pot needs it...no set time. And yes, if the plant seems to big for the pot, you will need to repot it. I had to repot one of my ferns.....cut it in half and put it back in the pot.....is thriving.Helpful Reply -
