Why doesn't my bird of paradise plant, bloom?

try super Bloom. Mine finally bloomed after five years. Then a bad freeze this January did a job on it. Waiting for blooms again! -

They don't bloom until they get at least 3-5 years old. I waited longer than that and buds came and my ex mowed it down!!!!( Not the WHOLE reason he's the ex!)
