Leaving very large ceramic pots outside during winter

I would like to create a trio of matching colors, different shapes, of very large ceramic pots. Our winters are sometimes extreme and I need advice on protecting them through the winter.

Also, when planting, use potting soil; but line the bottom with shipping peanuts, egg cartons and even plastic bottles; then putt thepotting soil and your plants. This will lighten the planter. Use a plant tray on wheels to move into basement or garage. Ifthose places are cold too, cover with mulch and protect your plantswith fabric or plastic. Good luck.

To create the colorful pots, you can use Krylon Fusion spray paint. At the end of the season, place each pot in a heavy duty black trash bag to protect it from the snow and ice. I am in Minnesota where we have hash winters, too. I usually put my pots in the garage on the wall closest to the house but I have left them outside covered under my patio set and they've been fine.

A agree with MN Mom. As long as you can keep the moister (rain, sleet, snow) out of the pot, it won't crack. The water is what freezes and expands to complicate things.
