We grow ours on the deck in pots we buy at the store with the plant started. We also put tomato cages on them. It is hot on the deck so they require more water this way, but tomatoes love heat if they have the water. We find this is the easiest and we only grow 2 or 3 plants: one cherry, one or two for large tomatoes.

I agree with lenora, get them already growing in a pot, everything will already be done for you. All you have to do is feed and water. The cost is the trade off.

In pots, Early Girl variety will produce fast, south exposure if possible and make sure you fertilize weekly and water daily or when dry

Purchase the upside down hanging baskets for tomatoes. No weeding, and you don't need much space. There are probably you tube tutorials on how to make your own if money is an issue. We ate tomatoes all summer from our upside down planter.

I left mine in 5 gallon buckets, supported them with bamboo posts, but I still had to water them when I came home at night.

Just saw a tutorial that can’t be any easier, slice up a tomatoe that’s getting a little soft, take a planter full of potting soil and drop four of the slices into the pot and cover with a light layer of soil. Water and wait. When they sprout seperate and put them into additional pots maybe four to a pot as they grow keep The two strongest plants to grow in each of your pots.
