Small guestroom/office decor

Question

How can I turn a small 'extra room' into both a guest room and home office? There is one window at the far end of the room which is about 10' x 10'. I have a huge executive desk & bookshelves in there that I bought when I moved in; but they're way too 'masculine' and heavy for what I want now...Can I have a bed in there as well as a smaller desk, and if so, how would I arrange everything? Thanks.

A cot sized bed would be about 29' wide X 72' long (I just measured one I have in the attic.) So that leaves 4 feet for the end of the room under the window (how long is the window? and how wide?) How wide and how high are the bookshelves? Maybe they could go across from the bed. And you could have a longish but narrow desk/table under the window. If you pile pillows up against the wall on the bed it could look like a sofa.

A daybed or trundle bed would take the least amount of space. How often do you use a desk? Do you use anything with a cord (such as a computer) at this desk? Do you need the bookcases or file storage? A luggage rack for guest? Is there a closet door in the room as well as the entrance door? If so, are they on the same wall?

In our old house, we had a day bed in front of our window that we made up like a sofa when not in use, with a desk on the opposite wall. The wall between the two had bookshelves. It worked well this way because the computer monitor doubled as a TV for the guest when we had company.

One option would be to use a corner desk, along with a day bed. The only other thing I can suggest as an alternative to maximize the space would be to remove the closet door(s) and create an office nook by getting plywood cut to closet size (with a round hole cut near the back to feed your cords through) and mounting it at desk height. Then use Command Hooks to guide your wires/cables along the baseboard to the nearest outlet. Since that would eliminate a closet for your guest, you could mount a nice size chunky knob from Hobby Lobby into a stud behind your entry door for hanging a garment bag when you have company.
